Mikayla Thomas cuts off a Libby striker as the Kats did not allow a score in the Saturday match.

The Columbia Falls girls soccer team got back on the winning track Saturday, thumping Libby 7-0 in a Northern A conference matchup. The two Hannahs — Callender and Gedlaman, did all the scoring. Gedlaman had four goals and Callender had three in the lopsided win.

The Kats also played stellar defense, holding Libby to just two shots on the day, even though they had five girls up on the line.

“I asked them to settle it down and pass the ball and they did,” coach Greg Trenerry said after the match. “It resulted in a lot less work and a lot more opportunities.”

The girls are now 5-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play. They’ll look to avenge a loss against Whitefish earlier this season when they face the Lady Bulldogs at home. The Wildkats had a 2-0 lead in that match, only to lose 3-2. They then travel to Polson Saturday. If they win out, they could conceivably win the conference.
