Cats run well in Cut Bank wind

Sage Wanner took third and Kimberly Peacock was fifth at the Cut Bank Time Trials cross-country meet last week.

Wanner clocked a 16:15, 30 seconds off the pace of Flathead’s Ben Perrin, who Wanner beat last week in Libby.

Peacock had a 19:42. Trish Carlson of Great Falls CM Russell won the race with an 18:33.

While the races weren’t scored events, Columbia Falls coach Jim Peacock said his tally had both teams the top two in class A schools.

He said conditions were tough, with the wind blowing 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

“It was still a great day to run,” he said. “Between the wind and a course that has a decent hill that you climb twice, this set up to be a slower race than last week’s in Libby, but 72 percent of our boys, JV and varsity, ran faster this week, and 70 percent of our girls did the same.

Raina Crowell was the second fastest runner for the girls, clocking a 21:34, good enough for 21st. Gabe Knudsen was the second-fastest for the boys, clocking a season best 17:30 to take 17th.

The field had several AA schools.

Crowell’s been battling an illness, so it was good to see her run healthy, Peacock said.

“I was pleased with the team again this week and was particularly happy with the younger runners on the team. They are getting better by the day.” he said.

The teams are close to home this weekend with the Flathead Invitational at Rebecca Farm.
