At the School District 6 board meeting on Monday, O’Brien Byrd was recognized for his efforts in bringing lights to Flip Darling field.

“This has been an amazing effort,” said board member Larry Wilson, “The Byrds have always been strong in the community. This is a great reflection not just on you but on the community.”

Board Chair Jill Rocksund presented Byrd with a certificate of appreciation.

“It’s been exciting to watch the teams over the years. I’m excited to see them grow and expand,” Rocksund said.

Byrd, in turn, thanked the board for their help in bringing the lights to the field.

“I’m really in awe of how quickly things went. I really appreciate the support, that you were responsive and sensitive to the timeline,” Byrd said.

“You could have put this on the back burner, I know, but you came through big time,” he added, “maybe this year we can capture something special, like the state title, and that will just be the cherry on top. It makes me so proud, it’s one more thing for Columbia Falls to brag about.”

Byrd presented a video with footage of the lights’ installation and the Wildcat’s first game under the lights to the board. The video is meant to be an additional thank-you to contributors who were unable to attend the game, Byrd said.
