Both the boys and girls cross country teams took third at the Thompson Falls Invitational last week. The girls were led by Kimberly Peacock, who won the race in 19:27, edging Polson’s Beatrix Frissell by 21 seconds.

The boys were led by Sage Wanner, who clocked a 16:45.25, just four seconds behind Jackson Duffy of Ronan.

Coach Jim Peacock noted just 17 points separated the girls from Polson and Whitefish, who took first and second respectively.

“We know we can compete with both teams, though they had the better of us this week. We need to shave a little time from the split between our top five runners. The girls are improving rapidly, and their confidence is high,” he said.

The boys were second behind Frenchtown and Ronan. Frenchtown is one of the top teams in Class A and Ronan is one of the top teams in Class B.

Gabe Knudsen and Winfield West took 12th and 15th places respectively with times of 17:57.20 and 18:05.55. Sophomores Dillon Wanner and Beau Umbriaco both had good runs, as did freshman Joe Lamb.

Rounding out the girls scoring were Genevieve Delorme, 10th, 21:02.38; Raina Crowell, 11th, 21:33.61; Kara Mohr, 41st, 22:28.11; Raychel Hoerner, 61st, 22:41.92; and Haylie Peacock, 83rd, 23:06.95.

The teams run Thursday in Whitefish at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course South Course behind Grouse Mountain Lodge. Girls race at 4 p.m. and boys race at 4:45 p.m. The junior high school team will race at 5:30 p.m.. The following week, the team travels to Fairmont Hot Springs to compete against all the Western A cross country teams. The state A meet is coming up on Oct. 22 in Kalispell at Rebecca Farms.
