Matthew G. Riley “Ricky”

Jan. 22, 1928- Nov. 13, 2016

Ricky passed away at his home in Columbia Falls on Sunday Nov. 13, 2016. He was born in Lodi, New Jersey to Matthew and Benita (Frey) Riley on Jan. 22, 1928. He was the fifth of seven children. He graduated high school in June of 1945 and two months later enlisted in the Navy. All four of his older brothers were fighting around the world at this time.

Ricky was married to Claire Lupino in 1961. They immediately started a family with Matt being born in 1962, Nick in 1964 and Gina Marie in 1966. After retiring from Bergen County Parks in 1996, Ricky and Claire followed the trail of their sons and grandchildren and moved to Montana.

The family’s fondest memories of their dad were of family trips to a cabin in New York state. Here the love of the outdoors and hunting were started. Ricky enjoyed cooking, playing cards, fixing things and telling stories. His family and friends will never forget the good times gathered around the kitchen table. The generosity to cook and entertain for whoever walked through the kitchen door, at all hours of the day and night, will never be forgotten by so many.

Ricky is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Claire. He is survived by his son Matt and his wife Sharon, their children Matthew, Sam and his wife Sammi, David, Liz, Joe and Sarah of Kalispell; his son Nick and his wife Kathy, their children Luke, Nicholas, Noah, Rose, Caleb and Stephen of Columbia Falls; and his daughter Gina Marie of Woodbridge, New Jersey; and one great-grandchild, Isaac.

He also leaves behind one brother and two sisters in New Jersey as well as many numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Ricky will be held at Central Bible Church, 901 First Avenue East in Kalispell on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. Donations in Ricky’s name can be made to the Gideon’s International. Columbia Mortuary is caring for Ricky’s family.
