Columbia Falls Wildkats clutch in softball win over Polson
The Columbia Falls softball team battled back from a 5-0 deficit to beat conference foe Polson 6-5 Tuesday night.
The Wildkats suffered from a slew of errors in the first two innings to fall behind. But the Kats clawed back with two runs in the third, a run in the fourth and three in the sixth after Samantha Collins hit an RBI single for the go-ahead run with the bases loaded.
The last out in the game was an interesting one. Kat pitcher KJ Schweikert threw an inside pitch that the Polson batter ducked under. It hit her bat, went up in the air about a foot and Collins caught the ball for the final out.
The Kats are now 3-2 in conference play and 16-5 overall.
The team went 4-0 at the Butte Central tourney last week.
At Butte, the Wildkats beat Glendive, 5-3 and Miles City 6-5 on Friday and Saturday the girls beat Laurel, 7-6 and Cut Bank, 12-0.
The Kats wrap up the season Thursday with a game against Frenchtown away. A win would put them in second place in the division, as Polson has already lost to Frenchtown twice.
Frenchtown edged the Kats 3-2 on May 10.
