The Columbia Falls girls tennis team beat Hamilton 6-1 Saturday to round out their home matches this season. Emily Getts continued her undefeated streak. She dropped Grace Lemp of Hamilton, 6-0, 6-0 and Lili Szundy of Whitefish, 6-2, 6-1 on Thursday.

Molly Schmit also had a great week, dropping Kaylyn Homyak of Hamilton, 6-0, 6-0 and Hannah Madsen of Whitefish 6-3, 6-7 (9-7), 7-5.

The boys had another rough week. They were blanked by Whitefish Thursday away and lost to Hamilton, 6-1. Their lone win was a forfeit on Hamilton’s part.

Columbia Falls courts aren’t much of an advantage for either the host or the opposition.

The plastic courts buckle in the heat, making large bumps in the surface.

They’re also rife with dead spots.

Court No. 2 is almost unplayable on a hot day, the surface is buckled so badly.

It will take a significant investment by either the city or the school to rectify the situation. A normal court surface costs around $50,000 per court.

The city owns the four courts the school plays on at Columbus Park. The school and the city have begun very preliminary talks on the future of the courts.
