Glacier National Park’s volunteer office is recruiting bikers to patrol the Going-to-the-Sun Road while it’s closed to vehicle traffic this spring. This new Volunteer Bike Patrol coincides with the bike-shuttle service starting May 7.

The shuttle service will take visitors and their bikes from Lake McDonald Lodge to the gate at Avalanche. The bike patrol volunteers will operate mainly from Avalanche to the Loop, with the opportunity to go all the way to Logan Pass.

Volunteers will support the park rangers who are also on bicycles by engaging with cyclists and hikers. They will provide Park information, orientation, road and trail status, first aid and assistance with minor mechanical difficulties.

Volunteers must be physically fit, live locally and be available from May 7 through July 1 There’s no housing in the park for out-of-town volunteers, For more information contact the volunteer office by emailing Andrew Lahr at andrew_lahr@nps.gov or by calling 406-888-7002. To volunteer, apply online at www.volunteer.gov/results.cfm?ID=15867.
