Murrell Malone

| March 2, 2016 5:57 AM

Murrell Malone passed away on Feb. 18, 2016 peacefully in his sleep. He was born on the Malone homestead ranch 50 miles east of Roswell, New Mexico on Feb. 25, 1912. He was one of 13 children of George and Freddy Malone and was the last living child of this pioneer family.

He was married to Ruth (Gibbany) Malone for 60 years before her passing.

Murrell and Ruth had three sons, Robert, James, and Carl Malone.

James Malone, the only living son, currently lives with his wife, Donna, in West Glacier. Murrell is survived by eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren spread out over the U.S. from San Diego to Ontario.

Murrell and Ruth ranched for 50 years in the Ozarks of northwest Arkansas near Alpena where a large presence of the Gibbany side of the family now reside in northwest Arkansas and Missouri.

Murrell was a great story teller with a great sense of humor. With a week short of his 104th birthday he had a wide range of  experiences ranging in time from horse and buggy days to space travelers providing real life experiences for his stories and memories. He loved fishing, especially at his ponds on the Arkansas ranch and had more than one story about the big one that got away. He was a steady guiding light for all of his family and for all that came into contact with him. We will all miss him but know he will be a leader providing compassion and guidance to all of the spirits he meets up with in heaven.  Memorial services will be held in Harrison, Arkansas.
