BASKETBALL: Bigfork boys, girls claim District 7B tournament championships

POLSON — Bigfork’s boys and girls were crowned District 7B basketball champions on Saturday in tournament play.

The Vikings and Valkyries, who were also the regular season champions, now head to the Western B divisional tournament, which begins Thursday at Flathead High School, as top seeds.

The second, third and fourth-place finishers from the District 7B tournament also advance.

Championship

Bigfork 50, Thompson Falls 37

POLSON — Bigfork used a strong first half to down Thompson Falls. The Vikings held a 31-17 advantage at the intermission and cruised from there.

Jonathan Landon led Bigfork (19-1 overall) in scoring with 14 points. George Gibson totaled 10.

Corey Tessier had 11 points for Thompson Falls (10-10).

POLSON — Balanced scoring carried Libby (12-8) to 24-point victory over Troy.

Jonny Cielak and Ryggs Johnston had 12 points each while Anthony Johnson and Erik Lauer both finished with 11 to power the Loggers.

Sean Opland led Troy (7-14), and all scorers, with 22 points.

POLSON — Bigfork (16-4) used a big second quarter to pull away from Libby (9-11).

The Valkyries outscored the Loggers 18-10 in that stanza to take a 27-14 lead at the half.

Mattison McAnally led Bigfork in scoring with 13 points. Lana Berg had 12.

Shannon Reny scored nine points for Libby.

Bigfork enjoyed a big edge at the free-throw line. The Valkyries hit on 15 of 21 attempts to 5 of 12 for Libby.

POLSON — Troy (12-9) emerged with a hard-fought win over Lincoln County rival Eureka.

Stacy Cooper topped Eureka (8-12) in scoring with 15 points.

Allie Coldwell netted 10 points for Troy.
