Wildkats handle Blue Devils on the road
Cydney Finberg hit six treys and had 22 points as Columbia Falls dispatched Corvallis 70-50 on the road in girls basketball Saturday.
The Wildkats also had 16 points, 14 rebounds and four steals from Kiara Burlage and 13 points, five assists and four steals from Dani Douglas. Sydney Hovde had four blocks, nine rebounds and three steals in addition to her five points.
The girls jumped out to an 18-6 lead in the first quarter, but didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, just 33 percent from the field. They were, however, 10 for 32 from beyond the arc and 18 for 24 from the line, noted coach Cary Finberg. They also out-rebounded the Blue Devils 45-33.
“We had some kids step up and play pretty well,” Finberg said.
He noted Corvallis was a good team. Finberg said the Kats need to work on getting more production from their bench, but “they played hard and competed.”
They travel to the Northwest-Southwest A tip-off tournament at the Adams Center on the University of Montana campus this Friday at Saturday.
They face rival Butte Central at noon Friday and then Hamilton at 6 p.m. Saturday. Central beat the girls for the state A championship last year, so it should be a great rematch. The Maroons are like the Kats — they also return three-all state players and they have a 24-game win streak.
