Boys take fourth at Kalispell Invite

The Columbia Falls boys swim team took fourth and the girls took 10th in its season opener Saturday at the Kalispell Invitational.

Great Falls High won the event.

Colton Babcock led the boys squad with a first place in the 200 individual medley, setting a new school record with a time of 2:00.30. Babcock also won the 100 butterfly with a 53.11, tying his old school record.

The boys took second in the 200 freestyle relay, with a time of 1:39.75. Sage Wanner, Sam Pierce, Zayne Friar and Babcock swam that race. They also took second in the 400 freestyle relay with the same swimmers.

The girls took ninth in the 200 freestyle relay with swimmers Bridget Barta, Joyce Hatfield, Kailey Schredar and Maddy Stoddard.

“The girls team is in a rebuilding year with a lot of promising swimmers who with continued experience are going to become stronger each meet,” coach Amy Caudill said. “Four of the five swimmers who competed for Columbia Falls today swam in their first meet ever.”

200 Free: Sage Wanner, 9th (no time available)

200 IM: Zayne Friar 8th, 2:23.64

50 Free: Riker Foster, 10th place, 26.57, Sam Pierce, 11th place, 27.53

100 Fly: Russell Albin 11th place, 1:08.48

500 Free: Kaleb Bagley 7th place, 6:41.29

100 Back: Zayne Friar 6th place, 1:05.77

100 Breast: Riker Foster 10th place, 1:18.90, Sam Pierce 11th place, 1:19.63, Sage Wanner, 12th place, 1:20.92
