Girls soccer has young talent

The Columbia Falls girls soccer team lost eight starters to graduation, but the team should be pretty solid again this year as a host of new talent is coming up through the ranks.
Last year the Wildkats won the Northern A division, but were downed by Laurel in the first round of the state A playoffs.
This year’s squad will feature some young talent, including freshman Josie Windauer, who looked really sharp in practice. They also have a returning forward in junior Hannah Gedlaman. The speedy Gedlaman scored several goals for the Kats last year and should be an even bigger force on offense this year.
On the defensive end, the team is anchored by senior Kendra King. In the midfield, look for good things from Meghan McCallum, Macey Sandefer and Madison Snyder. Junior Madeline Jarvis will be the starting goal keeper.
“They’re working hard,” said coach Greg Trenerry. Trenerry is in his 20th year as head coach of the girls program.
He said one problem is depth.
“We won’t have a lot of subs,” he said.
The girls open play at home Saturday against Stevensville. Game time is 2 p.m. Polson and Whitefish are the teams to beat in the conference. In the east, Laurel and Billings Central are tough again this year.
Trenerry is assisted by Nicolette Bales and Sarah Lovitt. Lovitt will coach the junior varsity squad. The girls open teh season at 2 p.m. at home against Stevensville.
