William “Bill” Robert LaValley 93, of Columbia Falls, died April 11, 2016 at his home at high noon with his family by his side.  Bill was born March 18, 1923 in Ogema White Earth County, Minnesota to Raymond and Emma LaValley.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, son Terry Robert LaValley Westphal, brother Vernon LaValley, sisters Betty Jean Hilstead, and Violet Carlson.

Bill was married three times. He was first and foremost our father and a true friend to so many people.  Every day Bill’s home was always full of friends, family, and stories.  Bill was happiest when the house was full of company.  Bill lived most of his life in beloved Montana. He was a lifelong cowboy and rancher. Bill had many professions during his life. He was a hunting guide in Montana and Alaska; a Deputy Sheriff and Justice of the Peace in Swan Lake; and a bush pilot in Alaska.

He had over 3,000 hours in his Cessna 170 airplane, which he and his brother owned.  Bill is survived by his brother Tom LaValley and his sons Raymond LaValley Westphal of Frisco, Texas; and Calvin LaValley Westphal of Kalispell; his six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Linda Hawkins was his caregiver for over the last year and words can’t say how grateful we are for her love and support.  Thank you to all who came to help with his care at the end of his life.  A special thanks to hospice employees Randy and Jewel, and thanks to Pastor Mike.  Please join us in celebration of Bill’s life at his home on Saturday, April 23, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers please give donations to hospice.  Columbia Mortuary is caring for the LaValley family.
