TRACK & FIELD: Bigfork girls win Eureka Invite

EUREKA — A few local athletes piled up the podium on a fast day at the Eureka Invitational track meet on Saturday.

The Bigfork girls outpaced Eureka for the team title, winning eight events.

Bigfork sophomore Bryn Morley won the 400 and the 1,600, qualifying for state in the mile with a time of 5:03.86, the fastest time in Class B this year.

Valkyries teammate Anya Young set a season- best time in finishing second, cutting nearly two seconds off her qualifying time from four days ago. Mattison McAnally won the 200-meter dash and the 100 hurdles for the Vals and finished second in the 100. Miranda Campbell won the shot put and discus.

Eureka’s Kaylee Kronsperger, who won the 100 in 13.84 seconds, also won the high jump, setting a qualifying mark by clearing 4 feet, 10 inches.

Troy’s Olivia Roach won both the long and triple jumps.

On the boys side, Troy senior Sean Opland won the 100, 200 and high jump, clearing a Class B-best 6-5. He also finished second in the javelin.

Eureka’s Garrett Graves, who won the 400, qualified for state in the high jump, clearing 6-0 to finish second to help the Lions win the boys team title.

Lucas Blankers set a season-best mark in the long jump to win that event and the triple jump, while finishing second in the 100 and pole vault. Cannan Smith, who won the 110 hurdles and javelin, set a state qualifying mark in the javelin, throwing 168-6.

Libby’s Tim Goodman won the 800 and 1,600 and Bigfork swept the relays.
