Campbell-Queen's homer lifts Kats over Glacier

With the game knotted up at two apiece and a light breeze blowing out of the outfield, senior Morgan-Queen sent a pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning just over the left field fence to put the Kats up for good against Glacier Monday night. It was Campbell-Queen’s second dinger of the season as the Kats won 6-3 over the AA Wolfpack at home.

After the homer, the Kats added three more runs with an RBI double by Katie Price and two other RBIs by Sam Collins and Lottie Ellis. Pitcher KJ Schweikert pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the seventh. She walked in a run rather than give a solid hitter a pitch to hit and then got an infield grounder from the next Glacier batter to end the game.

“A lot of fun,” said coach Dave Kehr after the game. “That was a fun game. KJ pitching did a great job. We put the bat on the ball. Morgan’s homer sparked us. In the field we made some plays. Syd (Hovde) had a great catch.”

Hovde snared a falling ball in the left field to end a Glacier rally.

Glacier was ahead 2-0 after four innings in what was largely a pitcher’s dual. Singles by Collins and Peyton Kehr with runners on tied the game at 2-2. The Kats had the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth with one out, but couldn’t get a runner across.

At the fast pitch tournament in Belgrade over the weekend, the Wildkats went 4-0. On Friday, they beat Park County High School 5-0 and Havre 6-4. On Saturday, they hammered Dillon 13-1 and Shepherd 11-7.

Pitcher KJ Schweikert no-hit Park in the win.

Last Tuesday, the Kats dumped Class B Ronan, 15-4 and Thursday they hammered Whitefish, 23-1. Sydney Hovde had a grand slam against Ronan. She also hit a homer against Dillon. Samantha Collins homered against Havre. As a team, the Kats are swinging the bats well.

The girls face conference rival Frenchtown at home Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
