GOLF: Bigfork boys win team title at Eureka Invitational

EUREKA — Libby senior Jonny Cielak won his second straight tournament to start the Class B golf season but the Bigfork boys took home the team title at the Eureka Invitational on Tuesday.

Colton Stodghill led the way for Bigfork with a round of 76 to finish third. Joseph Potkonjak finished fifth with an 82, Jonathan Landon sixth with an 83 and Augie Emslie in ninth with a 93 to win the team tally by 20 strokes.

Cielak edged teammate Ryggs Johnston for the second time in five days to remain unbeaten on the links this season. Johnston finished two strokes back, shooting 74 to finish second for the second straight tournament. The Libby boys finished third as a team, however, with both other qualifying golfers finishing outside the top 10.

Ronan’s Fisher Niemeyer finished in fourth with an 81 to lead the Chiefs to a second place finish in the team race.

The Ronan girls won as a team, led by Brooklyn Olson, who finished tied for first with a round of 93. The Maidens easily outpaced Eureka for the top spot, placing all four scorers in the top six.

Eureka’s Popla Sawangsawai also tied for first to help the Lions to a second place finish. Libby’s Lily Feeback shot a 97 to finish in third place, the only other female golfer to break 100.
