Delmer Bernard Teigen

Delmer Bernard Teigen, 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at his home on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015.

Delmer was born Nov. 28, 1933 in Noonan, North Dakota to Oliver and Margaret Teigen. He grew up on a farm in Noonan. He attended several years of school in a one-room schoolhouse with 13 other children, three of which were his siblings. Delmer had many childhood memories that he loved to share with us.

Delmer married Muriel Hall in 1957. During this time, he adopted her daughter Colleen.

He became a proud dad to a beautiful little girl. Delmer and Muriel divorced years later but remained good friends. They re-connected in the last several years and were able to spend some time together. Delmer was led through the Salvation Prayer by his daughter Colleen, a week before his passing. He was "born again" at the age of 81.

"Whoever will call on the name of the Lord, will be saved," Romans 10:10.

Delmer served in the U.S. Army from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1961. He spent most of his enlistment in Germany. Delmer loved serving in the Army and was grateful he was able to travel.

After his enlistment in the Army, Delmer spent several years in California, before moving to Libby to be closer to his family. After the death of his father, Oliver, in 1976, Delmer and his mother moved to Columbia Falls. Our "Uncle Del" was a kind and compassionate man. He spent many years solely caring for his mother until her passing in 2007.

Uncle Delmer was a fantastic cook. He worked in several restaurants in the valley. We especially remember him at the Brass Lantern Restaurant and the Double Ds Cafe in Col. Falls. He was known for his "garbage omelets" and had the reputation of "making the best eggs Benedict in the valley."

We all have special memories of our uncle Delmer and he will be missed very much. "Survivor" night will not be the same without Uncle Del.

Delmer was preceded in death by his father Oliver and his mother Margaret, his ex-wife and good friend Muriel, his brother Lloyd Teigen, his sisters Olive Knoepfle and Donna Smith.

Delmer is also survived by his daughter Colleen and her husband Shawn Hicks, several nieces and nephews, his dog "Jake," and many more who loved him and will miss him very much.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the City of Libby Cemetery. There will be a gathering of friends and family after the service.
