Wanner fifth at Western A Classic x-country meet

Sage Wanner took fifth in the Western Division cross-country meet Saturday. Wanner clocked a 16:14.08 to lead the Wildcats. He was the only male runner from Columbia Falls to break the top 25. As a team, the boys took fifth.

Other individual results included Glenn Morden, 31st, 17:44, Winfield West, 33rd, 17:49, Will Nelson, 34th, 17:53, Gabe Knudsen, 42nd, 18:33, Bryce Bennett, 44th, 18:46 and Charlie Martin, 48th, 19:07.

Top runner for the girls squad was Genevieve DeLorme who took 13th with a time of 20:38.68. Teammate Raina Crowell was 15th with a 20:51.50 and Raychel Hoerner was 24th with a 21:25.46. Other individual times and places included Haylie Peacock, 33rd, 22:17, Lacey Johns, 35th, 22:35, Danielle Schwalk, 40th, 22:52, MegAnn Hanson, 44th, 22:35.

Coach Richard Menicke was pleased with both teams’ overall performances. He noted that most runners had personal bests. 

“I’m proud of the way everyone competed,” he said.

The girls took fifth overall. The team now travels to the state meet to Great Falls to wrap up the season.
