Bigfork students of the month

The faculty and staff of Bigfork High School have selected three young men to honor as Students of the Month. Damon Maitland, Craig Cheroske, and Kyle Saxton were nominated as a group by the auto/wood shop teacher Steve Melkioty. Melkioty commended them for their proven track record of skills, hard work, trustworthiness, and willingness to complete projects to help others. They have completed carpentry, welding, or auto work for the maintenance department, the athletic department, the school garden, community members, teachers, and fellow students.

Damon Maitland is a senior and participates in Humorous Duo for the Speech and Debate, and races Pro-Am motocross. He says he especially enjoys the bodywork and paint projects.  Damon will be going to Motorcycle Mechanic Institute in Arizona. He commented that he has worked harder than ever before.

Craig Cheroske said his favorite thing to work on in the shop “is anything that comes through the door. I enjoy working and keeping myself busy as much as possible in order to cherish my downtime.” Craig is a senior and plans to become a diesel mechanic after completing the program at the Universal Technical Institute. Craig said that he appreciates “that on this rare occasion there were multiple students who were recognized for their hard work outside of classroom performance.”

Kyle Saxton really enjoys the bigger, more challenging jobs they get, such as engine and transmission swaps, and welding and fabrication. In addition to enjoying working on school and community projects, Kyle snowmobiles, hunts and works. Kyle is a junior at BHS, would enjoy being a diesel mechanic in the future.
