The Bigfork Museum of Art and History has named an interim director to run the museum while they continue their search for a permanent replacement.

Valerie Vadala Homer has been appointed by the board of directors to act as interim director.

The previous museum director Marnie Forbis, who was with the museum of 18 years, was fired from the role in early September.

Homer is a veteran art consultant, curator and writer who also serves as a Gallery Director for Bigfork Collaboration.

Homer has served as a museum board member as well a volunteer.

A press release announcing Homer’s position said, “Her rich and diverse skill set will be put to work designing programs and curating new exhibitions for 2016 that will broaden the museum’s network and activate its current base of supporters.”

The press release said her immediate duties will involved restructuring operations and launching a major funding campaign.

Long-term goals include critical elements from the Museum's Strategic Plan, including strengthening the Museum's brand through expanded communication, transparency and visibility, and developing education programs and events,” the press release said.

Homer has spent nearly two decades in leadership roles with the Scottsdale Arizona Cultural Council. She has created award-winning exhibits at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.

“Ms. Homer is passionate about connecting art and people and was selected because of her extensive experience and record of accomplishments,” Board president Shadowhawke said. “The Board is looking forward to working closely with her on the 2016 exhibition schedule and charting new directions for programs, volunteerism and our gift shop as reflected in our strategic plan.”

As part of its expanded vision, the Museum has established a new Council of Advisors comprising community leaders who can provide guidance to the board in executing the Strategic Plan and enhancing the Museum's contributions to Bigfork as an arts community. Members of the council are Donna Lawson, Gretchen Gates and Cherie Hansen. In addition, the Museum has added Dee Dee Cooper as a returning Board Member and has named Kathleen Whitmire as Interim Vice President.
