Vikings and Valkyries claim Divisional titles
Bigfork cleaned up on the team trophies, claiming both the boys and girls on Saturday during the Western B track and field divisional in Missoula.
The girls edged Plains 155-154 while the boys rolled up 128 points to 69 over runner-up Thompson Falls.
“It was amazing, they really stepped up to the plate and the performed well,” head coach Sue Loeffler said.
For the Valkyries Bryn Morley won the 800 and 1,600 and was second in the 400 and 3,200. Makena Morley was second in the 800 behind her younger sister, and took first in the 3,200.
Gabby Eaton and Mattison McAnnally took first and second in the pole vault.
Both the 400 and 1,600 relay teams took first.
Logan Morley swept the distance events for the Vikings.
Carson Cantrell won the pole vault and the 300 hurdles, and placed second in the 110 hurdles.
Tyler Iverson won the discus and took second in shot put. Matt Farrier was second in the 400.
The Vikes and Vals will look for a repeat of Divisionals at state on Friday and Saturday in Kalispell.
“Plains is going to be tough for the girls,” Loeffler said. “The boys, we have a shot to be in the top three.”
Loeffler said all of the girls have a shot at placing in at least one event at state.
“Our freshman girls have been doing amazing and the ones we’ve had before keep doing better and better,” she said. On the boys side, Loeffler said, Iverson is likely to place, and Matthew looks strong in the 400. Past state placer Josh Sandry will likely not be competing due to a pulled hamstring.
