Against new subdivision

| May 18, 2015 9:08 AM

I am opposed to the large housing development requested by Prairie Dog Development, proposed for the property known as Halfmoon Meadows.

A major concern of mine is the heavy demand on our wells. Our well is 234 feet deep. In the summer when we are using water to grow our gardens, water must be dispersed carefully or the water level drops below our pump and we must wait for it to fill back up.

Will the developer pay to have existing wells drilled deeper if necessary? Will there be water-use restrictions put on the new homes? What will be the effect of 47 septic tanks so close to Trumble Creek?

Another concern, with approximately 15 homes between the Blue Moon Nite Club and the F.H. Stoltze Land & Lumber Co. mill, Halfmoon Road is heavily traveled because of logging and lumber trucks, as well as local people. Adding vehicle traffic from 47 homes will compromise the safety of those of us living along Halfmoon Road.

Has there been an environmental study done for the designated area? I know that the animals currently using the woods and field do not take precedence over human use, but we frequently see deer, elk, moose and bear.

We are rapidly losing agricultural land in the Flathead and must take steps to conserve what is remaining. Such an impact on this rural space will be overwhelming. There are numerous areas around the Flathead already available for building houses. The Halfmoon Road area doesn’t need this development.
