The Flathead Lacrosse varsity team matched up against Sandpoint, Idaho, on May 9, knowing that the game’s winner was guaranteed a first-round bye at this weekend’s state championships in Bozeman. Flathead responded with its most complete effort of the season and an 18-3 victory.

Flathead followed that win with a 12-1 decision over Billings East but dropped its final game of the regular season in overtime to Billings West, 8-7. The Flathead team won five of its last six games to finish the season with an 8-3 record. The team scored 42 more goals than it allowed.

The Flathead team opens state tourney play Saturday against the winner of the Billings West v. Sentinel game. The state championship will take place Sunday at the Montana State University-Bozeman soccer stadium.

The tournament will mark the final games for Columbia Falls High School seniors Henry Chisholm and Connor Bowman, who led the 2015 team’s offensive and defensive squads respectively.
