Bigfork freshman Haile Norred was hot on the heels of Plains standout Hailey Phillips on Saturday, at the 40th annual Archie Roe Invitational track meet in Kalispell.

Norred placed third in the 100 behind Phillips by .01 second, and was second behind Phillips in the 200 by .7 seconds. Norred also placed second in the 400 behind teammate and fellow freshman Bryn Morley.

The Valkyries scored 51 points at the meet.

Mattison McAnnally placed third in the 300 hurdles.

Marissa Hiza was third in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump.

Gabby Eaton was fourth in the pole vault.

For the boys, Logan Morley won a pair of exciting distance events, edging Flathead’s Sylas Schutt and Jake Perrin in the 3,200, winning by just .14, and blowing away the field in the 1,600. He finished 10 seconds in front of Schutt in the mile, winning by nearly 100 meters.

“I felt good,” Morley said. “Everything went right. I was just hoping to go out hard. I didn’t really know what I had left.

“It’s really helpful having those guys back there. I knew they were back there so I kept going harder.”

Josh Sandry also contributed to the Vikings’ 49 points, placing sixth in the 200, and second in high jump. Sandry was two inches off Whitefish’s Jed Nagler’s winning leap of 6-5.

Carson Cantrell placed sixth in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the pole vault. Tyler Iverson placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 46-1 and discus with a throw of 141-6. Iverson was closely followed in discus by Ross Coleman, with a throw of 141-4. Matt Farrier placed sixth in the 400 and the boys 400 meter relay took fourth.

Bigfork Track will compete in districts this Saturday in Eureka.
