Nicosia, Kolodejchuk take 2nd in lifting competition
Columbia Falls High School students Carla Nicosia and Logan Kolodejchuk recently competed in the 18th annual Montana State High School Power Lifting Championships in Great Falls.
It was the first power lifting competition for both students. Power lifting competition includes the three Olympic lifts — bench press, squat and dead lift. All of the competitive lifts are done on command and require a pause before the weight is pushed, increasing the difficulty of each lift.
Nicosia’s three-lift total of 730 pounds placed her second in the 145-to-170 pound weight class and was also the second highest three-lift total for all women’s weight classes. Her best lifts of the day included a 270-pound squat and a 290-pound dead lift.
Kolodejchuk’s three-lift total of 935 pounds included a 260-pound bench press, a 375-pound dead lift and a 300-pound squat. Logan’s 935-pound three-lift total placed him second in the 181-to-197 pound weight class.
Nicosia and Kolodejchuk credited the high school’s weight lifting program for preparing them to be successful at the state level.
