Reporter recalls Dick Lundstrom

Thank you for the Feb. 11 story on Dick Lundstrom. I hope he has a full recovery and my thoughts are with him and his family.

I first met Dick when I was a reporter for the Hungry Horse News in 2003-2004. His enthusiasm for local softball and baseball was so infectious that I agreed to learn how to be an umpire — with a lot of training and encouragement from him.

He must have taught me pretty well because an equal number of parents from both teams would yell at me during the games I worked.

Dick is one of those quality people whose efforts on behalf of local softball and baseball teams have quietly had a positive effect on thousands of kids who grew up in Columbia Falls. I’m praying for a full recovery for him.
