Bigfork High School wrestling got a peek at the top class B and C wrestlers in the state at the Choteau Invitational over the weekend.

Typically the wrestlers who place at the Choteau meet usually place at the state tournament.

Overall the team struggled with their first matches against kids from the other side of the mountains head coach Josh Feller said.

Vinny Quirk at 205-pounds was the only Bigfork wrestler to place, taking fifth, though Castor Conley at 113-pounds and Dalton Western at 170-pounds, were each one match away from the podium.

Quirk lost to Choteau’s Travis Field in the semi-finals 3-2. Quirk took nine shots to Fields 1.

Tate Chenard at 145-pounds and Noah Vanquekelberg at 160-pounds had to win their first match to get into the varsity tournament. Though they battled hard, both came up short and wrestled in the adjacent junior varsity tournament instead.

Bigfork hosts its only home meet on Thursday starting at 5 p.m. Wrestlers from Ronan, Eureka, and Mission/Charlo are scheduled to attend the quad. The meet will kick off with senior night for both the wrestling and swimming teams.
