Columbia Falls runner Derrick Williams was recently named men’s indoor track athlete of the week for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Williams, who runs for the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves, collected his second win of the indoor season in the one mile run at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Feb. 6-7. He shaved two seconds off his season-best time and beat the competition by nearly two seconds, as he finished at 4:08.86. His adjusted time of 4:01.08 is the fastest in NCAA Division II and is an automatic qualifier for nationals.

Williams also had a first-place finish in the 3,000 meter run at the Colorado Mines Division II Invite on Jan. 30-31.

He graduated from Columbia Falls High School in 2012 and spent a year at Carroll College before transferring to CSU-Pueblo.
