Gravelin takes second at Holiday Classic wrestling

The Columbia Falls wrestling team took 23rd at the CMR Holiday Classic in Great Falls over the weekend.

Kaleb Gravelin had a great weekend for the MatCats, advancing to the championship round. The 138-pounder fell just short in overtime to Tate Niederegger of Chinook, 7-4.

Gravelin won by decision over Nakoda Siegel of Colstrip, 7-3, in the quarterfinals and then beat Brent Tezak of Dillon in the semifinals 11-9. Storm Kemmpainen at 170 pounds advanced to the fifth round in the consolation bracket. The Great Falls tourney draws the best wrestlers from across the state in all school classes.

At the Buzz Lucey tournament in Eureka, Winfield West pinned Daniel Uli of Plains to take the 113-pound championship. The MatCats junior varsity squad was sixth overall.
