Katherine Gregory Averill, 63, died Sunday, Aug. 9 at Kalispell Regional Medical center of complications from lung cancer. She was the beloved wife of Dalvin Averill of Columbia Falls. She was the dearest mother of Sunshine Esper (Kalispell), Kari and Jamey Green and Michael and Stephanie Baker (all of Columbia Falls), and Dalvin Jr. of Truckee, California. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren; Cameron, Sarah, Elizabeth, Nicole, Hailey, Wyatt, Karly, and Kiaunna. Also surviving is her devoted mother, Marilyn Schorer (the late Dr. Calvin Schorer) and her loving siblings Elizabeth and George Pamerleau (Wisconsin); Martha and Brian Ingalls (Florida); Mary and Robert Rice (Florida); Helen and Steve Parke (Virginia); and Margaret and Howard Long (Michigan). Many nieces and nephews and a host of friends also mourn Kathy's death.

Kathy was born Christmas Eve, 1951 in Wyandotte, Michigan and grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan where she attended the public schools and was active in music and many sports programs, and in Christ Church Grosse Pointe youth programs. In 1975 she moved to Columbia Falls where she reared her four wonderful children. She was an avid sportswoman and softball player and she enthusiastically supported the many activities of her children and grandchildren. Kathy had the gift of friendship and throughout her life cultivated many beloved friends whom she considered part of her family. Since her retirement, she and her husband have enjoyed traveling and have lived part of every year in southern California and Arizona.

A memorial service for Kathy will be held Friday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Alliance Church at 1025 7th Ave. W in Columbia Falls.
