Park snowplows near Triple Arches

Glacier National Park officials reported April 23 that snowplow crews on the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road have cleared snow around Big Bend and reached Riprap Point below Triple Arches.

The Sun Road on the west side of the Divide currently is closed to vehicles at Lake McDonald Lodge.

Hikers and biker can travel about 12 miles up the road to Packer’s Roost during regular weekday hours while plow crews are working. Hiker-biker access is unrestricted on the west on weekdays after the crews are finished for the day and on weekends.

The Camas Road from Apgar to the North Fork Road is open to vehicle traffic, as well as portions of the Inside North Fork Road up to Doverspike Meadow, Bowman Lake Road, Polebridge South Gate and Fish Creek.

On the east side of the Divide, Park plow crews on the Sun Road will resume work at Siyeh Bend on April 27. The spent the past several days patching asphalt around the Swiftcurrent Ranger Station, boat ramp and helipad, as well as conducting routine maintenance on other road areas.

Hikers and bikers can travel up the east side of the Sun Road after crews finish work on weekdays and on weekends, and they may use St. Mary Campground for primitive camping. There will be no vehicular access until at least June 4.
