Two students at West Glacier Elementary School were winners in the 54th annual Keep Montana Green poster contest this year.

In the Primary Division for grades K-3, first place in Northwest Montana and third place in statewide competition went to second-grader Selah Heinzen. Honorable mention went to Lucie Libby.

More than 330 posters were submitted by students from 12 schools across Northwest Montana. Twenty posters were sent on to the statewide competition, where six placed or received an honorable mention.

Each year the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation asks teachers across Montana to participate in the annual poster contest. Hundreds of students enter the competition, providing art, slogans and innovative ideas for wildfire prevention efforts.

The theme this year was “Think Before You Burn,” in reference to the many human-started wildfires caused by well-intentioned people burning agricultural or natural yard debris.
