Park plow crews already at Haystack Creek

Glacier National Park snowplow crews report they are just a few miles from Logan Pass, even though it’s only the first week in April.

Plows are already beyond Road Camp and working in the Haystack Creek area, about five miles below Logan Pass. In a normal year, they’d still be at lower elevations, but this winter brought mostly rain, not snow, to Glacier Park.

The Sun Road is still gated at Lake McDonald Lodge, but with no plows working during the weekend, bikers and hikers can travel far beyond that.

The Sun Road is entirely clear from Lake McDonald Lodge to Avalanche Creek. Park officials warn visitors that ice is on the roadway in some locations.

The Camas Road is completely open, but the Fish Creek Road is still snowed in. The Park Service is letting the snow melt out at Fish Creek.

On the east side, hikers and bikers can travel beyond the gate at St. Mary when plow crews aren’t working, but the road is closed on weekdays when construction and plowing is taking place. The east side plow crews have reached Siyeh Bend.

The Two Medicine Road is snow-free but gated at Running Eagle Falls. The Many Glacier and Chief Mountain roads are also snow-free but still gated.
