Park plow crews encountering little snow

It was no April Fool’s joke as Glacier National Park snowplow crews hit the Going-to-the-Sun Road today, even though snow in the Park is sorely lacking.

Longtime Park observers say they can’t remember a spring opening with this little snow. Normally crews are cutting through at least two or three feet of snow at the Lake McDonald Lodge. This year, there was no snow until crews got nearly three miles up the road.

Currently, the Sun Road is closed to hikers and bikers at the North Lake McDonald Road gate while park plows are working.

On the east side, the Two Medicine and Chief Mountain Roads are plowed. The Chief Mountain Road remains gated until the border opens later in the year, but the Two Medicine Road is open to Running Eagle Falls.

Crews were clearing what little snow there is in the Many Glacier area today and then will transition to the east side of the Sun Road later this week.
