I saw that the other day that Congressman Steve Daines co-sponsored the Tribal General Welfare Exclusion Act, which exempts federal income assistance to tribal members from taxation.

Tribal leaders in Montana and Wyoming also supported this legislation. This is an example of the good type of legislation that our tribes need to get our economy turned around.

Whether the land is tribal or not tribal, this government taxes too much, and this legislation gets the federal government off our backs. Steve Daines’ support for this legislation makes me proud to have him as our congressman and hopefully soon as our new senator.

Daines’ support for this legislation is further proof that Daines has been a strong advocate for Montana tribes. Daines has also worked hard for the Crow and Northern Cheyenne reservations to get the federal government out of the way so the tribes can expand their economic opportunities in mining coal.

Amanda Curtis cannot be trusted to provide Montana Indians with the economic assistance they need, but Congressman Daines has a proven track record of helping tribes by being a consistent advocate for them in Congress. I hope to see him in the Senate continuing this good legacy.
