The Bigfork Summer Playhouse announced the Scholarship Recipients for the 2014 season last week. Recipients include actress Gabrielle Harker, attending Coastal Carolina University, actor Daniel E. Burgos, attending Florida State University and musicians Marc McDuff attending the University of Montana. Those recipients all received a $1,000 Scholarship.

A Memorial Scholarship was established a few years ago in memory of Dr. Dudley Page in the amount of $1,500, which was awarded to actor David Leppert, attending the University of Florida.

The Kacie Brekhus Shining Star memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $2,500, went to actor Jacob Sefcak, attending the University of Montana.  Mel and Candi Brekhus established the Kacie Brekhus scholarship several years ago in memory of their daughter who died in a car accident. Kacie had loved coming to the Playhouse and her parents felt it would be fitting to award a scholarship each year in her name.

Sefack, a Bigfork High School graduate, returned home for a second season with the Playhouse. He appeared as Malcolm MacGregor in the Full Monty, Lt. Shrank in West Side Story, Clayton in Tarzan and Kenneth in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Sefack is a senior at the University of Montana.

Leppert spent his first season with the Playhouse as Snoopy in You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Baby John in West Side Story, one of Muzzy’s boys in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Kerchak in Tarzan and several characters in the Full Monty. He is working on his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre Performance at the University of Florida.

Also attending the University of Montana McDuff returned to the Playhouse for his second season playing percussion for all the shows. Originally from Pittsford, Vermont McDuff is working on two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in music studies and one in integrated digital medial.

Burgos appeared this summer for the first time at the Playhouse as Bernado in West Side Story, Bun Foo in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Snipes in Tarzan and numerous characters including Tony in the Full Monty. He will receive a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory next spring from Florida State University.

Harker returned to the Playhouse this year for the second time, appearing as Dorothy Brown in Thoroughly Modern Mille, Velma in West Side Story, a jungle citizen in Tarzan and Georgie Bukatinsky in the Full Monty. She is a senior at Coastal Carolina University earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre. She is enrolled in the Honors College and the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority.
