Stacey Schnebel a is a rare find these days — a candidate who’s running for office because she wants to serve the people and make a positive difference for her community.

As a successful business owner and vice president of the Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce, Stacey understands the bottom line — but she’s not much interested in the party line.

I have met Stacey and she is genuine, refreshing and strongly interested in learning what’s important to her constituents. She believes the people — not the party — should set the agenda, and that if the county is to prosper, its government needs to represent all of its citizens, instead of just the few who filled the coffers of the winner.

I’m not surprised that Phil Mitchell decided he was “too busy fundraising” to debate her and give more people a chance to hear her speak, because she is inspiring. In refusing to let us hear the candidates discuss the issues, Mr. Mitchell seems clearly confident that he can rely on Flathead voters to dutifully elect whomever has the R after their name on the ballot, instead of putting any thought into which candidate will best represent their interests.

The Montanans I know are smarter and more independent-minded than that. If you want a county commissioner with a desire to represent the voice of the people, instead of parroting the party line, vote for Stacey Schnebel.
