Benghazi memorial will be installed at Flathead Lake Lodge Sept. 11
A dedication ceremony is Sept. 11 for the “Honor the Four” monument at Flathead Lake Lodge.
The monument is a tribute to four people who were killed in Benghazi, Libya, in 2012, including Tyrone Woods. Woods, a Navy Seal, was the son of former Bigfork resident Charles Woods and Cheryl Croft Bennett of Oregon.
Part-time Bigfork resident William Thomas created the memorial with the assistance of Flathead Lake Lodge.
Tyrone Woods served 20 years in the Navy and retired in 2010. He continued working in the security field as a government contractor, his father, Charles said.
He had been in Libya two months and was asked to stay two more weeks. He had six days left when he was killed.
The ceremony is at the Lodge’s property on Quarter Circle Ranch Road three miles south of Bigfork in Woods Bay. The color guard flag ceremony is at 5 p.m. Wearing a dress uniform, or a duty uniform, for military, fire, police or rescue personnel is encouraged. The program will last an hour, with food and refreshments following. The Bigfork Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4042 Honor Guard will be doing a flag folding ceremony.
