Joe Lawrence

| October 29, 2014 12:00 AM

Joe Lawrence finished his allotted time on earth to go on to his next assignment on October 14, 2014.  He lived in Swan Lake from birth, and could not have been enticed to leave.   He was an avid outdoorsman,  a true mountain man, and  is off to run his next trap line.  Joe spent his years as a logger, forester, wildland fire fighter and a passionate hunter, fisherman,  and

trapper.

Joe was born in Kalispell on January 28, 1939 to Arnold Lawrence and Frances Winter Lawrence.  He was predeceased by them and many aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, two sisters, Saralene (Sally), husband George Hopkins  and Kathleen (Kitty) Stolar,  his three sons; Jeff, Chris and his wife Lisa,  Luke and his wife Kathy, nine grandchildren, Quinn, Riley, Samantha, Cort, Skyler, Cody, Eric, Cade and Brooke, and four great grandchildren.

Joe worked and played hard at life and squeezed out  everything it had to offer.  He was willing to tackle any project and nothing was impossible.  A hunter- gatherer to the core, he was an original picker and could build anything with his hands.

He was a member of Swan Chapel,  Swan Lake Volunteer Fire Department,    Flathead Pioneer Auto Club,  Big Sky A's Model A club, and a life endowment member of the NRA.

A memorial service will be held at Swan Chapel on Thursday November 20 at 1:00 pm, and a celebration of his life will follow next summer at the lake place.
