Wreaths for vets

| October 24, 2014 12:04 PM

Recently I visited 173 businesses in the Columbia Falls area asking for donations for Wreaths Across America. I received overwhelming support for the project. Business owners and staff were very courteous and appreciative that would spend my time to acquaint the business community of this nationwide project.

Steve Armstrong, president of the Glacier Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and event coordinator with the Montana Veterans Home Cemetery, told me that he has received sponsors for more than 120 wreaths. He also told me that Montana Gov. Steve Bullock is scheduled to speak at the Dec. 13 ceremony.

I was surprised at the great variety of small businesses in our community. I was also very appreciative of the interest shown in the project. This project not only honors the veterans but also acquaints the public with the Montana Veterans Home.

The Glacier Chapter of SAR coordinates with the Bird Woman Falls Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Montana Veterans Home with this project and in the construction of the Directory in the Veterans Cemetery and the entering of all the markers in the cemetery in a national registry called Find A Grave.

Again, my thanks to all you people in the business community for your generosity and your willingness to listen to my effort to explain the Wreaths Across America project.
