Columbia Falls High School hosted the 2014 Northwestern A Conference Cross Country Championship race at Glacier View Golf Course on Oct. 18.

The races were run successfully, and the participating teams gave accolades to the coaches for a job well done.

Pulling off a large event such as a conference championship takes many hands, and this recent experience re-enforced my belief that the “Character” that in CFHS begins with the “Community” that is behind its children.

Volunteer efforts of both parents of athletes from CFHS and community members with no attachment to the current team were instrumental in our running a successful event. Volunteers stepped up in a big way to help administer the races, provide food and ensure that all present had a great experience.

Our gratitude for the help provided runs deep. Names too many to list, but I must single out CFHS activities director Troy Bowman for his outstanding behind-the-scenes support of the event, as well as his help running the show.

Thank you again to all who helped us make this day special.
