Officials with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation are seeking help in finding the individuals responsible for $6,000 in damage to state property on the Swan State Forest.

On Saturday, Sept. 13, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., individuals unbolted and removed two four-foot-square aluminum signs with photos describing differences between grizzly and black bears. It is also believed they damaged three gates by attempting to pull them out with a vehicle.

The vandalism and theft took place in broad daylight and public view on the loop road starting on Goat Creek across for the DNRC headquarters on Highway 83, and along forest roads to Napa Lookout and Cilly Creek Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-847-6668. Callers can remain anonymous, and a reward may be available.
