Cross country picks up speed

Bigfork’s Makena Morley won the Bob Firman Invitational crosscountry meet on Saturday at Eagle Island State Park in Boise, Idaho, with a course record time of 17:24.6.

She was competing in the Elite Division, which had 114 high school runners.

Bigfork freshman Bryn Morley was fourth with a time of 17:51.9.

Bigfork junior Logan Morley finished 69th out of 130 runners in the boys’ Elite Division with a time of 16:52.2.

The rest of the Bigfork crosscountry team travelled to Polson for the Pirate Duels crosscountry festival at the Polson fairgrounds.

The event was almost three times as big as it had ever been in the past according to event organizers, with 450 runners in middle school, high school and adults.

Bigfork runners will compete in Thompson Falls on Thursday and Hamilton on Saturday.
