Vikings win divisional track

Twenty Bigfork High School track athletes will head to state this weekend in Butte.

The boys and girls teams showed well at the divisional meet in Missoula last weekend. The boys placed first as a team and the girls placed second.

“All the kids just had a great weekend,” coach Wayne Loeffler said. “The kids really stepped up on Saturday and came through, and performed really well.”

The Morley siblings — Makena and Logan — once again led the teams, both dominating the distance events.

Senior Makena Morley continued to break records. She broke Bigfork’s Kayla Carlson’s 2010 record in the 800, as well as her own divisional record in the 1,600.

“The times she had is pretty awesome,” Loeffler said.

She was also part of the girls 1,600-meter relay team, which placed first with a time of 4:09.65.

Josh Sandry matched his district mark in the high jump of 6’4” to place first. Tyler Iverson won the discus with a new personal best of 157’8”.

Now the Vikes and Vals are looking forward to the state meet.

“There will be some good competition, “ Loeffler said. “Everybody’s got to bring their game.”
