Getting up to speed

This week, Phil Mitchell, candidate for Flathead County Commissioner, traveled to Helena to testify before the bi-partisan Joint Water Policy Committee in support of the required legal, fiscal and constitutional reviews customary for legislation which carries the potential for negative impact on private property rights, such as those anticipated with the proposed Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Water Compact.

Phil understood and articulated that the implications of this proposed water compact will result in adverse regulatory restrictions throughout the 11 counties impacted by the CSKT Water Compact. His knowledgeable and well organized presentation was instrumental in a unanimous vote in favor of doing the studies.

I like Phil’s straight forward answers. He seeks input from others and is always willing to listen. One of Phil’s strongest assets is his understanding of finance. He understands the consequences of long term debt and the difference between “needs and wants.” Property owners on fixed income have difficulty paying increased property taxes when both the county and schools want more money. Unfortunately, many property owners drive old vehicles and use old technology while government does not.

I am supporting Phil Mitchell for Flathead County Commissioner, Derek Skees for the Public Service Commission and Bob Brown for West Valley. Please vote for them in the upcoming primary election.

Derek Skees has the knowledge and moral compass required for the job of Public Service Commissioner. The PSC has the important task of keeping the cost of our public utilities, such as electricity and telephone services, at a reasonable and affordable rate. Honesty, financial acumen and an unwavering attention to detail make Derek Skees ultimately well qualified for this important office.

Working with Derek when he was a state representative in Helena, I had the opportunity to observe, first hand, his abilities and qualifications for this position. In addition, I have employed Derek as a contractor, trusting him to complete the work on my property in a first class and timely manner. I am constantly amazed at his planning, financial and problem solving ability.
