The Columbia Falls girls softball team had a tough week on the road in conference play, going 0-2. On May 8, they lost to Frenchtown 8-1 and then a couple days later to Polson 7-3.

The Wildkats are now 2-4 in conference games and 5-8-1 overall. The Kats did have a bright spot in the week, hammering Shelby 16-0 on May 5. The nonconference affair was a makeup game from one that was scheduled earlier this year.

Ashley Trueblood homered, had four RBIs and pitched a no-hitter in the Shelby victory.

But the Kats had a tough time against the Lady Broncs, who had 10 hits against Trueblood and walked eight. Meanwhile Frenchtown’s Morgan Ray had 10 strikeouts and allowed just three hits.

Against Polson, the Lady Pirates took a 2-0 lead the in first. The Wildkats answered with two in the top of the second to tie it up 2-2, but Polson scored two in the bottom of the second to go up 4-2. The Lady Pirates extended the lead with two more in the fourth and an insurance run in the fifth. Polson had 14 hits in the victory.

The Kats will travel to the Butte Central Tournament this weekend, where they’re scheduled to play Sidney, Lewistown, Havre and Billings Central.

They then face Libby on May 22 at home, a game they likely need to win by more than four runs to have a shot at a playoff berth because Libby beat the Kats earlier this season 10-6.
