History club

The Columbia Falls Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting in the old chapel building at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls on Tuesday, May 20, at 7 p.m.

Canyon businesses

Freedom Bank of Columbia Falls will sponsor a “Canyon Kickoff” event at Glacier Grill in Coram on Friday, May 16, from 5-7 p.m. to show support for businesses from Hungry Horse to West Glacier. Information, food and drinks will be available. For more information, call Stefanie Pierson at 892-1776.

Women’s Connection

The Columbia Falls Women’s Connection, affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries, will hold a luncheon at the Teakettle Community Room on Nucleus Avenue in Columbia Falls on Wednesday, May 21, starting at 11:30 a.m. with Angie’s Greenhouse providing the special feature. Jan Mathers from Oregon will be the inspirational speaker. Cost is $8 for lunch and program. Call Candy at 387-4119 for a reservation. All women are welcome.

Communion

Six young people received their First Holy Communion at St. Richard's Catholic Church in Columbia Falls on May 10. They included Madison Smith, daughter of Ted and Lynette Smith; Rachel Cincis, daughter of Chad and Lina Cincis; Ilah McKenzie, daughter of Paul and Holly McKenzie; Alex Branstetter, son of Josh and Jacki Branstetter; James Friske, son of Jim and Kristi Friske; and Brandon Lopez, son of Roberto and Maria Lopez.

Inner worlds

The movie “Inner Worlds, Outer Worlds, Parts 3 & 4” will be shown at Imagine Health, 305 First Avenue West in Columbia Fall on Thursday, May 15, at 7 p.m. co-sponsored by Flathead IONS. A $5 donation will be requested. For more information, call 892-4406 or visit online at www.imaginehealth.net.

Unique art show

The Hockaday Museum of Art, 302 Second Avenue East, in Kalispell, will present a landmark exhibit, “A Journey Through History — Art and Artifacts from the Collection of Dr. Van Kirke and Helen Nelson,” on May 29 through July 26. The Nelsons are recognized throughout the West as major collectors and have donated significant paintings, artifacts and books to museums, historical societies and public schools across the U.S. The Hockaday exhibition will include works by notable artists Charles Marion Russell, O.C. Seltzer, Edgar S. Paxson, Charles Fritz, Fred Fellows, John Fery, Joseph Henry Sharp, Carl Rungius and Edward Borein. Display items will include illustrated hand-written letters and sketches by the artists who introduced the American West to the world. Artifacts from indigenous people will also be featured.
