The Columbia Falls softball team made short work of Whitefish last week, dropping the Lady Bulldogs 13-3 at home May 3.

Ashley Trueblood led the team with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning and three RBIs for the game. She also had a great day on the mound, striking out 13 in a game that only went five innings.

Tiffany Hummer went 2 for 3 with a triple.

The Wildkats are now 2-2 in conference play and 4-6-1 overall.

The season will take a tougher turn this week as the girls face top-ranked Frenchtown on Thursday and Polson on Saturday away.

A couple of wins would make their postseason hopes much brighter. The Wildkats almost have to beat Polson — they lost to the Lady Pirates 3-0 to open the season this year in a game the Kats had every chance to win.

The Lady Broncs are 8-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Polson is 3-2 in conference, having lost to Frenchtown twice. If the Kats can get two wins this week, they’d be tied with the Pirates in conference play.
