Plum Creek recently presented scholarships to eight students from Columbia Falls High Schools.

• Austen Brooks, of Kalispell, plans to attend Flathead Valley Community College to study music. He played bass for the Columbians.

• Andrea Getts, of Columbia Falls, plans to attend Brigham Young University to study neuroscience. She was named 2014 All-Conference Basketball and participated in the 2014 University of Montana Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival.

• Emily and Halee Perkins, of Columbia Falls, plan to attend Flathead Valley Community College. Emily, an honor roll student who played varsity soccer and has been trained in home health care, is interested in the medical field. Halee, who will study nursing, earned an international baccalaureate degree in art and is a member of Health Occupations Students of America-Montana.

• Dalton Nelson of Columbia Falls, will attend the University of Montana to study forestry and fire services. He was an honor roll student and lettered in cross-country, wrestling, football and swimming.

• Bryan Shaffer, of Columbia Falls, will attend the University of Great Falls to major in physical education. As the wrestling team captain, he led the team to a second-place finish in the state competition. He also received the Outstanding Senior in Wrestling Award and was a member of the All-State Choir.

• Brooke Wilson, of Columbia Falls, will attend Flathead Valley Community College to study psychology. A member of the National Honor Society, Brooke served as senior class president and was a member of the Student Council. She participated in Peer Allies, choir and the yearbook.

• Michael Zenz, of Columbia Falls, plans to attend Montana State University to major in math and computers.

Boys State

Columbia Falls High School student Colter Norick and six other Flathead County high school students headed to Carroll College in Helena as delegates for the American Legion Boys State gathering on June 8-13. The students were selected by Kalispell American Legion Post No. 137 and were sponsored by 17 members of the local business community. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands and chorus. Delegates will be elected to attend the American Legion Boys Nation gathering in Washington, D.C.

MSU dean’s list

The following local area students were named to Montana State University honor rolls for spring semester 2014 with a minimum 3.5 GPA: Columbia Falls — Garrett Folks, Margaret Frankino, Joanna Gehrig, James Grisez 4.0 GPA, Kristofer Gross, Angela Hawman, Melissa Livingston, Cody Maynard, Nathalie Maynard 4.0 GPA, Patrick McGunagle 4.0 GPA, Russell Plevel, Torey Seward and Austin Wargo 4.0 GPA; Martin City — Michele Hagen; and West Glacier — Erin Ramsay
